Attitude February 15, 2006

I work for a reputed multinational company. There are loads of companies in this world still trying to get to the standards of the company that I work in right now. I’m telling this to you because we all know that any company is driven by its employees, from a Cleaner to the Managing Director. So how should the attitude be for people who work there. I work as a support professional. I was having a small chat before starting my day with one of my colleagues. My company came up with a cost cutting policy by providing good plastic cups to drink coffee/tea and not to use the paper cups for them, as they created a lot of waste(money as well). Paper cups can be used for drinking water, of course, you can’t carry around your cups everywhere, cos’ you won’t know when you would feel thirsty. But you will definitely know when you feel like having a coffee.

There were a few guys taking tea in the paper cups and walking around. I just told “why aren’t people using there 6th sense?(the only logical difference between normal animals and homo sapiens)”. When told not to use the paper cups for coffee why do people who are educated, leading teams, managing projects would do that? The only answer that I got from that guy was, “Why should they? If you are doing it that’s all”. Why like this? Isn’t he a literate? Will he do it if he takes it as his property? The possible reasons why they could do this would be, either they don’t know to read English or they surely have a ill-Attitude. It’s definitely is not the 1st one, cos they are here working with a big brand and they wouldn’t be recruited otherwise. So it’s their attitude that has to change.

Rules-Are not barriers. They are made for us to be self-disciplined. They can always be broken for genuine reasons. Rules are not an eyeflap to make you go in the direction that your told. They are simply to streamline our discipline. For example people are not suppose to talk on mobile phones in ATMs. This is not a rule. There is no ruler in the world to force you to do something. Its told because it would distract you when request for money from the ATM. So every other strategies, so called rules are just to improve our self-discipline. AS long as you are self-disciplined, you have no rules. You wouldn’t consider them as one. They’ll be a part of your life-better life.

We are not here to Exist… to live.

Hmmm…seems like I know this “person” quite well…..

I totally agree….and even I use paper cups….why? cause I really don’t have time to carry my “provided” plastic cup, take a coffee, bring it back to my desk….take a break again and wash it…..

But I agree that it is really stupid to use paper cups inspite of the fact that we have been asked not to. But since that has been the case, I have really reduced my intake of coffee in the office. Cleanliness, environmental consciousness – all begins after all at your place of work or even better – at your HOME. So when people do not have that much of consciousness, can we expect more from them? And do they make ANY real effort to change their ways?? NO…..

They tell you – “please clear your own plates”…..tell me how many do it?? 5% of the ppl?? I am sometimes tempted to clear some….

And why do ppl spit bubblegum into the most unlikeliest of places – the urinal stalls??

I don’t know. Are they born or brought up like that – well, maybe? But what has education done to them?? Well, it has given them a job, more money…..but has it made them educated? No – like we discuss so often – they are pathetic, educated fools!!

And one more before I go, ask someone not to waste paper – they laugh at your face!! Recycle paper – thats not even heard of in my office!! India will get swallowed by itself – or worse, its people!!!

Yep, true. But every one of us need to only check “Am I doing what is environment friendly” Just that one element is good enough to change the world. Atleast our nation to start with.

And I am just one in a million to break the “rules”, coz I hate ruleZZZZZZZZZZZZ….

Might be worth it if they provide a smoking zone at the cafeteria….makes life simpler to take a mug, smoke and drink and wash it there…makes more sense

Well, machan…these more resemble something that we need to follow rather than rules…yeah, rules suck….but there are somethings that really make this world a better placed….small things…..

5. Zeon - February 17, 2006

Oh yea.. rules do suck. But only when we considert hem as rules. It’s in out perseption. I dont go by rules. I dont have one. All I follow is sense of keeping my things in place. And only that is expected out of everyone. Rule is just a simple word… just like any other.
